Committee Meeting

Monday 11 May 2009 7:30 pm at 5 Wilsons Close, Nether Stowey

Minutes

Present: Louise Parsons in Chair, Judith Greig taking minutes, Jon McIntosh, Tim Tribe, Sue Davison, Dennis Harkness, Jill Goodwin.

1.Apologies for absence: Heather and Eric Coates.

2.Minutes of the last Meeting – Approved and Résumé: not available.

3.Matters arising from the last Minutes: None

4.Treasurer’s Report - £300 yet to come in from Theillay Trip fees. Loss of £900 plus in 2007 commented. Current funds £3198 in 2 accounts.

5.Organisation and strategy:

5.1.Suggestion that a plan of future direction of the organisation be considered in light of current situation – no conclusion except that the problem is ongoing and will be discussed at Theillay of course.

5.2.NS VC Primary School

5.2.1.Newsletter announcement of free places for children on Theillay trip did not produce a response.

5.2.2.School Fair date has been changed to 1st or 2nd Saturday in July. Committee divided over representation of Twinning at the Fair.

5.2.3.No feedback from Theillay to Nether Stowey pupil correspondence – French teacher at Theillay end responsible for initiating the link is no longer in place.

6.Membership

6.1.Membership list will be circulated to committee and updated quarterly.

6.2.A list of membership offers of event help in specific areas will be available.

6.3.It was confirmed that corporate memberships are all paid up.

8.Twinning Stall Nether Stowey May Fair Street Market Sat. 2 May Bank Holiday 2009

8.1.No sign-ups for Theillay trip but good promotion of our organisation. Broke even financially with balloons to spare and a good rota system for the day.

9.Theillay Visit:

9.1.Visit Sat 23 - Tue 26 May 2009

9.1.1.Travel Programme 22-26 May 2009 JGr – Get-together for travellers and committee arranged Friday 15 May 7pm. At Old Vicarage.

9.1.2.Budget – loss anticipated of some £2000. 2 bottles of 15 yr Somerset Brandy (purchased, bill passed on), wrapped for presentation to Mayor and Jumelage individually .

9.1.3.Grant - £20 x 2 so far to claim , awaiting any further travellers.

10.Forthcoming Events 2009

10.1.French Conversation Lessons – Ongoing with 3 new learners. Two groups operating at lower and upper intermediate level, shortly to end for summer to start again in September.

10.2.Quizzes 2nd Sun each month Sep-March 7.30 R&C: – all is in order

10.3.AGM Date for 2010 – Fri 5 Feb 2010? (Not conflicting with Quiz that is on Sun 14 Feb). No information.

10.4.June 13 Barbeque – Saturday 6.30.

10.4.1.Tim is away, apologies, but will hand over liaison with Kate O’B to Jon Mc with assistance from DH after checking availability of Mikes Onions and Johnson for barbeque chefs.

10.4.2.6.30 start, £5 per head and £2 for school children, event for members and guests of members (no outside publicity), bring your own meat. Salads and puddings to be donated via Kate’s ring-around.

10.6.Boules and More (JMc) 6 September – now THE BINCOMBE BASH.

10.6.1.Funds in aid of OS Diggers and NS Twinners who will participate in a wellie throwing competition. Lunchtime barbeque will be at Bincombe House and cream teas at Bincombe Cottage. Various events, including staged, in the pipeline including those that may attract children in particular.

10.6.2.Open to all and will be promoted accordingly by Sally Dimmock (OS Diggers), Dennis will ensure entry in school newsletter (LP, JMc to advise).

10.6.3.Ample car parking. 120 participants pencilled in.

10.6.4.Volunteers needed and Dave Davison’s Has-Beens may be volunteered (SD) but Twinners are needed as well.

10.7.Starry Night – No information.

10.8.Quantock Walk – to discuss at June Meeting

10.9.The Big Supper, Saturday 14 November – Paul Enever booked OK (£175)

11.AOB – request that members might be advised of community projects met with agreement that relevant flyers from project instigators could be put out at relevant events for members’ interest.

12.Date and venue of next meeting Monday 22 June 7.30 at 9, Oak Road, Nether Stowey - Check: following days are inconvenient: Mon-Jill, Eric; Tue and Wed-French sessions and Judith; Thu-Judith; 1st Thur in month-Sue;

No meeting in August or December.
